Learning to pivot

Some of the best moments in life begin with a plan.

A vacation booked months in advance.

A dream home you've imagined for years.

A business you've carefully built from the ground up.

And sometimes, those plans unfold exactly as you imagined. But more often than we'd like to admit, they don't.

Life has a way of reminding us that we aren't always in control.

Flights get delayed.

Deals fall through.

Businesses evolve.

Unexpected opportunities appear.

The day you planned down to the hour suddenly looks nothing like you expected.

For a long time, I thought success meant sticking to the plan no matter what. If I worked hard enough, organized enough, and planned far enough ahead, everything would fall into place.

I've learned that's rarely how life works.

The people who seem to navigate life's ups and downs the best aren't necessarily the ones with the perfect plan. They're the ones who learn to pivot.

Pivoting isn't giving up on your goals.

It isn't lowering your expectations.

It's recognizing when life has changed the path and having the courage to adjust instead of standing still.

Sometimes pivoting means taking a different route to your destination.

Sometimes it means discovering a destination you never would have chosen but end up loving even more.

That lesson has shown up in every part of my life. In business, I've learned to adapt instead of chasing perfection. In real estate, I've watched families discover homes they never considered, only to realize they fit them even better than the first one. In travel, I've seen unexpected detours become the stories people remember most. The same is true in everyday life.

The days that don't go according to plan aren't failures. They're reminders that flexibility is one of the most valuable skills we can have.

So, make the plans.

Dream big.

Set the goals.

But leave room for life to surprise you.

Because sometimes the most meaningful journeys aren't the ones that go exactly as planned, they're the ones that teach us how to pivot.

Stay curious. Stay grounded. Keep roaming.
